Service Projects
In addition to weekly gatherings, TUMC Youth are active in service projects during the week and on weekends throughout the year. Each summer, High School Youth have the opportunity to go on a week-long mission trip to another city, and Middle School Youth have the opportunity for a week of service and mission to organizations in Tonganoxie, Kansas City, and Lawrence. These have proved to be meaningful experiences for not only the youth, but the adult volunteers who assist the youth.
The 2024 Local Mission Week is an opportunity for Middle and High School students. going in to 6th grade through recently graduated students to serve the surrounding communities. This year we are working at Lawrence Humane Shelter, Garments of Praise, and L.I.N.K. Lawrence. Click the button below to sign up your teen today! Contact Kirsten if you can volunteer to serve or drive during mission week.

Open registration is closed. Contact Kirsten Robinson at youth.tonganoxieumc@gmail.com if you would like to sign-up.
Fun Outings
TUMC also participates in fun outings throughout the year. Past outings have included escape rooms, bowling, arcades, laser tag and go-karts, ice skating, and nights at the movies.
Confirmation
Confirmation Class is a ministry for 7th graders and older. Our Confirmation curriculum provides an in-depth study that covers the basics of the Christian faith. Throughout Confirmation we also visit other churches, challenges students to think about why they believe, and give them the opportunity to be confirmed during which they make a declaration of faith in Jesus Christ.
Confirmation class is offered every other year or as needed.
Small Groups
Adult Discipleship consists of short-term Small Group classes, long-term
Life Groups, and other discussion and fellowship opportunities. We currently have a men's and
women's Sunday School class each Sunday at 10am, a Tuesday morning Bible study, and short
term studies/classes that members are encouraged to participate in. If you are interested in
joining a small group click the contact button above.
Care & Prayer Team
The Care & Prayer Team prays for individuals in the church and
community. They also provide care and support for individuals through making phone calls,
sending cards, and making visits to individuals in need of prayer and support. If you have a
prayer request or are interested in care, please contact the Pastor or the prayer team. This lay-
clergy partnership enables us to provide another level of care to our church family.
We also invite you to join us in prayer for those on our current Prayer List.
COMFORT & CARE SUPPORT GROUP
We also offer a Comfort and Care Support Group that meets on the third Sunday of every
month at 3pm. For more information about giving or receiving help through these ministries

SEEKING MEMBERSHIP
Membership recognizes your participation in the Church and affirms your faith in Jesus Christ.

Anyone can become a member of Tonganoxie United Methodist Church and we invite you to discern this next step.

We have five expectations for our members. Each is intended to help you continue your faith
journey towards becoming deeply-committed Christians. We believe fulfilling these
commitments will change your life in powerful ways and will bring you meaning and joy. These
five are: your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness.
We periodically offer a class called “Discover TUMC” for individuals and families exploring Membership.
BAPTISMS
Baptism is a meaningful and memorable occasion, a sacrament of our faith.

People of all ages can be baptized at TUMC.
Non-members are encouraged to seek membership as soon as possible after being baptized.
We offer baptism in two ways, by sprinkling Holy Water and making the sign of the cross on the forehead with
anointing oil to invite the presence of the Holy Spirit or, by full-immersion.
The United Methodist Church recognizes baptisms from other faiths and churches and therefore does not re-baptize people.

To be baptized please contact our Pastor or Church Office.
WEDDINGS
A wedding is the Christian celebration of a couple's love and commitment to each other and to God.
This sacred ceremony, in which you enter into a covenant with God and one another, creates
the foundation for your marriage. By choosing to be married by a representative of God’s
Church, you are inviting God’s presence in your wedding and purposely asking for God’s blessing upon the marriage.
Most weddings at Tonganoxie United Methodist Church are held in the Sanctuary which seats
200. We also offer the 304 Venue for wedding services or receptions, this inviting
facility seats approximately 100 guests. The TUMC Pastor will also officiates offsite weddings if needed.
To plan your wedding contact the Pastor or Church Office.”
FUNERALS
We are honored to serve you by providing care before, during, and after the loss of a loved one.

“Life’s Final Moments”
When a death is imminent, our Pastor is honored to come and pray with you. If there is such a time, please contact the church at (913) 845-2814 and
ask for the Pastor. We will make every
effort to have Pastor Matthew come to you or someone from our Care and Prayer Team
if the Pastor is unavailable.
If this is after office hours, please leave a voicemail on the Pastor’s inbox through the Church phone system, the message will reach his cell phone. Pastor Matthew will return your call as soon as possible.
“Grieving and Remembering”
When the death has occurred, our Pastor and staff would also be honored to provide the service for your loved one here at the church, at the funeral home,
or graveside depending on the family’s wishes.
Christ is our hope for eternal life and as we remember our loved ones, we share this hope to the surviving family and friends that their beloved is now in God’s eternal charge.
If you wish to host a reception for family and friends we offer our church’s Fellowship Hall or the 304 Venue for meals and time together. To plan a Celebration of Life Service please contact the Church Office.
